FARE Idaho Feature: Food Land Market

Photos by Allison Corona

Food Land Market is a Mediterranean restaurant, bakery, coffee shop and grocery store located on Orchard Road on the Boise Bench. They specialize in traditional flatbreads, Turkish coffee, falafel, and other Mediterranean cuisines.

After moving to Boise in 2007, owner Hana Mutlak’s dream was to open her own business as a way to share part of her culture and familiarize people with Middle Eastern food.

We spoke with Hana about her background, the history of Food Land Market, and what dishes you must try when you stop in.

“My name is Hana Mutlak, my homeland is Iraq, I came to the US in 2007. I lived 12 years in Amman, Jordan. In 2007 me and my kids decided to move to the US. We came as refugees.”

Why did you open Food Land Market?

“Food Land Market opened October 20, 2019. This date will be in my memories my entire life. I have seen a lot of support from the American community to my business, until now I am getting support from everyone in Idaho. Opening a Middle Eastern market and [restaurant] will help Americans to know little bit about Middle Eastern [culture]. I would like to share my culture with everyone.”

What dishes should people come in to try?

“I would say all dishes should be tried but so far the highest sale is the meat platter and falafel.”

What should people know about you and/or Food Land Market?

”People have told us that we got the best food in the community and we will always work harder with people’s support to make the best food with the highest quality. Also, without our amazing community we wouldn’t continue our business so much. Thanks to all of the people who have supported us and who are still supporting and will support.”
